Casa Rural Vidal

The House

Casa Rural Vidal is located in the village of Chirche, in the municipality of Guia de Isora. The village is situated at about 900 metres above sea level and its privileged position affords views of much of the west side of the island, from the shore all the way up to Teide National Park, crowned by the sweeping vistas over the island of La Gomera. In addition to this magnificent natural heritage, this modest rural enclave nestled on the slopes of southern Tenerife still retains much of the traditional Canarian architecture of the nineteenth century. Some of the buildings date back even to the eighteenth century. Another highlight is the setting that lends itself to short walking routes where the cultural and natural wealth of Chirche may be appreciated. There is a unique variety of ethnographic items that are still conserved today: tile kilns, bread ovens, threshing floors, etc. The local network of paths also offers you the opportunity to walk various routes that start from Chirche, along which you will be able to enjoy the splendid landscape and natural surroundings.

Casa Rural Vidal, which was renovated in 2000, dates back to the mid-nineteenth century, although it has undergone several changes over the years due to changes and economic hardship in the village. Currently, the house has three double bedrooms, living room, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, two courtyards and a sun terrace. The furniture and fittings blend respectfully with the house and the place, and are complemented with mod cons from the present age: washing machine, tumble dryer, heating in all the rooms, TV, and a fireplace in the living room.

  • Hiking

The upper slopes of Tenerife offer a unique setting for hiking. Most of the natural features, along with the historical heritage, are in an excellent state of conservation, and visitors may enjoy the bounties of the landscape by walking the traditional byways. From Chirche, the village in which Casa Rural Vidal is located, you can set off on several paths on the Guia de Isora local network of trails. One example is the Chirche – Vera de Erques walking route. We will happily point guests of Casa Vidal in the right direction and let them know what signs to follow on these historic byways.

  • Culture

Numerous cultural events are held in the municipality of Guia de Isora throughout the year. Of note is the celebration of the Day of Traditions in Chirche, an event that usually takes place during a weekend in July. In this encounter with tradition, visitors can personally experience the various traditional settings and activities that were carried out in the past by the inhabitants of the village. Threshing floors, tiles being fired in a kiln, bread making, the old schoolhouse... All complemented by visits to several old houses that open their doors to the public just for the occasion.

  • Paragliding

The village of Chirche is next to one of the top spots on the island for this sport, the launch site that several paragliding companies use as the starting point for flights on these southern facing slopes.

  • Gastronomy

Many typical dishes of the islands can be sampled in the local restaurants. Well-known local dishes include puchero (stew) escaldón (a broth of roasted maize meal) and turre (Canarian pork). As well as these traditional casserole dishes and gofio (roasted maize meal), honey and cheese, fresh fish is the main draw for the restaurants on the coast, accompanied by papas arrugadas y mojo picón (“wrinkled potatoes” and spicy sauce).

  • Beaches

If our visitor prefers to soak up the sun while listening to the waves lapping against the shore, Chirche’s ideal location means that the coastal towns of Alcalá and Playa de San Juan are just a 13 km drive away. In both of these towns you can enjoy a pleasant swim in the sea and the splendid weather that this coast is famous for.

You can also visit the more touristic beaches on the south of the island, such as Playa de Las Américas, or Playa de Las Vistas, which are about 35 minutes drive from Chirche.

  • Helicopter tours

Another leisure option that has emerged in recent years is the helicopter tour. Another great experience that you can enjoy here in the south of the island, as the company that offers the tours is based in the town of Adeje, located about 30 minutes from Chirche.
